Turbinate reduction surgery reduces extra tissue around your turbinate bones, allowing you to breathe more comfortably. Turbinates are little structures located inside your nose. As air flows through your nasal canal and into your lungs, they clean, heat, and humidify it. Irritation, allergies, or illness can cause your turbinates to become inflamed and swollen. This irritation is usually just brief. However, some persons experience chronic enlargement of their turbinates (hypertrophy). Turbinate decrease improves airflow in patients suffering from persistent nasal blockage. Excess tissue is removed by your surgeon to minimize the size of your turbinates (small, bony structures inside your nose). If nonsurgical treatments do not resolve the problem, turbinate reduction is usually advised. Turbinate reduction is a surgical technique performed by ENT doctors to enhance airflow in persons who suffer from persistent nasal congestion. This treatment is also known as inferior turbinate reduction and nasal turbinate reduction. (When surgery is performed on both sides of your nose, it is referred to as bilateral turbinate reduction.)
